What Luxury Buyers Really Want—And How This Founder Is Delivering It

Elizabeth Spaulding has never been one to wait for permission to innovate. Long before founding Reverie3D, a company transforming the way luxury buyers experience “move-in ready” homes, she was quietly sketching out her own version of what the future of home design could look like—one that fused beauty, speed, and technology.

A Spark from a Simple Insight

Her early inspiration? Her father, an architect, and a childhood surrounded by the language of spaces and structures. “I’ve always loved the experience of design and the power of our environment to shape memories,” Spaulding explains. That passion carried her from Bain, where she built the firm’s digital practice, to advising tech founders and shaping customer experiences as the CEO of Stitch Fix. But it wasn’t until a casual scroll through a Wall Street Journal article in fall 2023 that everything clicked.

The article described luxury second-home buyers who didn’t want to waste time sourcing furniture. They wanted to start living the moment they got the keys. For Spaulding, it was a lightbulb moment. “Of course! We all just want it done—and to love our space from day one.” But the traditional staging model didn’t cut it. What if, instead of pulling used furnishings from a warehouse, you could deliver a fully designed, digitally visualized space curated to fit both the buyer and the property?

Marrying Design with Scalable Technology

With a background advising AI startups and a deep understanding of the tech landscape, Spaulding saw the ingredients falling into place. “The technology was finally there. I had this conviction that we could build something the market hadn’t seen—a scalable, design-forward solution for making move-in feel magical.”

That insight sparked Reverie3D, a platform now partnering with top agents, developers, and builders to solve one of the industry’s most persistent pain points: how to help buyers feel at home faster. And Spaulding is clear about her strategy for growth: go through the people who understand the moment of home purchase best—real estate professionals.

“Buyers might only face the move-in ready problem every 7 to 10 years. But top agents and builders face it daily,” she says. “Partnering with them gives us scale and shared value.”

A Woman in a Traditionally Male-Dominated Space

While real estate and tech have historically skewed male, Spaulding doesn’t dwell on it. “I’m focused on value creation and finding the right partners,” she says. Still, she acknowledges the uphill road many women face in leadership, and she’s determined to change that narrative. “I’ve been very intentional about supporting other women-led businesses and adopting an abundance mindset. Folks like Danielle Wilkie, who opened up her network early on, made a real difference. I try to pay that forward in everything we do.”

Building with Belief and Support

Spaulding’s success hasn’t come without resistance. “Doubters always exist,” she admits. But she’s cultivated what she calls her “board of believers”—mentors, collaborators, and above all, her husband, who has been a key partner from day one. “When you’re building something from scratch, you have to draw strength from those who believe in how, not just question why not.”

What Makes a Great Founder

What makes Spaulding uniquely suited to this journey is her blend of resilience, systems thinking, and love of people. “I thrive when I get to connect the dots between ideas and bring people together to solve hard problems,” she says. Whether it was building a software engineering group from scratch at Bain or creating new product experiences at Stitch Fix, she’s long been in the business of invention.

But she’s quick to note that no founder succeeds alone. “It takes intentional effort to draw upon others—especially when it feels hard or lonely. Building anything meaningful is a team sport.”

Designing Not Just Homes—But the Future of Real Estate

With Reverie3D, Spaulding isn’t just launching a company—she’s leading a movement to bring beauty, ease, and inspiration into the places we live. And in doing so, she’s proving that the future of home design isn’t just high-tech or high-touch. It’s both.
