In an industry that can overvalue the flashy, new thing, we know it’s critical to mine the wisdom of the trailblazers before us.
When we first met our Advisor, Monica Reynolds, we were blown away. She has been a force in real estate for over 40 years including running a $100m team, leading KW MAPS coaching and authoring three books on real estate assistants and systems. Whew!
Monica agreed to share some of the nuggets she accumulated over those 40 years with us:
On overcoming adversity, she shares that there is always a path forward (and maybe a better one than you have now):
I dissolved a very successful partnership when I found out my partner stole money , and was dishonest about our business. I basically left with no assets and started out on my own.
On building successful businesses and offerings:
I came from the heart of a [customer] first , then as the leader.
On giving difficult feedback:
I set the conversation by saying : Do I have permission to share with you a challenge?
On how emotions play a role in business:
Keeping your emotions between the lines is critical to business success and advancement. [To do so] I process my feelings in many different ways. Exercise, calling a mentor, calling a friend or journaling. Journaling can really put it quickly into perspective.
On the importance of curiosity when dealing with difficult situations:
Asking questions is the best way to navigate a difficult situation and coming from curiosity before I make a decision or share my view.
On the value of play and rest in support of a successful career:
Take care of yourself first. You must schedule ME first in your schedule everyday.
On cooking (this one we laughed out loud):
I have the 3 D’s: I drive to it, or I have it delivered or I don’t do it.
One woman she loves to hype:
Mo Anderson/ Co owner of KW with Gary Keller. She is in her 80’s and still active full time as a Regional owner and trainer. She has written a great book called A Joy-Filled Life.
Monica Reynolds is an Advisor of The Helm. You can learn more about her here.
