Lacey Newman on The Helm Podcast

Why is real estate failing women? 65% of agents are women and 85% of agents are failing. For top-performing real estate agent, Emmy-nominated TV host, and business coach Lacey Newman, the answer was clear: we need to let go, go deeper, and rebuild from a place of authenticity.

In this episode of Wisdom from the Helm, Lacey shares her real story—one marked by bold decisions, deep healing, and a reinvention that redefined not just her business, but her identity.

When It’s Time to Let Go

After nearly a decade at the helm of a thriving Nashville real estate team, Lacey chose to end her partnership. Not out of conflict—but out of clarity. “We were moving in different directions,” she explains. “The kindest thing we could do was release each other.”

That choice wasn’t easy. It meant facing fear, uncertainty, and a full identity reset.

Navigating Fear and Identity Shifts

For Lacey, success came with stories: that she had to hustle to prove her worth, that shifting careers would mean failure, and that letting go would lead to ruin. “I was stuck in doom spirals,” she shares. “We tell ourselves that if we change, we’ll end up on the street.”

It took therapy, support systems like The Helm, and even inner child work to rewrite those beliefs. “I had to tell the 34-year-old version of myself—who was newly divorced and hustling nonstop—that she could rest now.”

From Highlight Reels to Real Healing

Lacey’s transformation wasn’t just professional. It was deeply personal. She began integrating her real estate leadership with her coaching identity—and started showing up online with radical honesty.

“We all have stories that shaped us,” she says. “If we can alchemize that struggle into a lesson, it becomes GOLD.”

That “GOLD” framework—Gather the Grit, Own the Lesson, Limit the Detail, Deliver with Direction—is what she now teaches other women leaders and agents. “We heal when we give purpose to our pain.”

Scaling Authenticity (Without Burning Out)

Authenticity, Lacey says, is the ultimate leadership strategy. But showing up real isn’t always easy. It means dropping the mask, sharing your “cool scars” (not raw wounds), and letting people see the full picture—not just the wins.

She’s built Elevated Agents around that truth: helping real estate professionals turn reputation into revenue, and story into strategy.

But make no mistake: this kind of work takes boundaries. “You need space to create,” Lacey says. “You can’t build something new when you’re buried in perfectionism and control.”

From Coaching to the Stage

Looking ahead, Lacey’s growth edge is clear: speaking. “When I’m on stage, I’m energized—not drained. That’s how I know I’m in the right place.” She’s also got a book in her future—one that’s been calling her since childhood.

For Lacey, everything she teaches comes down to one truth: “You don’t need permission to evolve. You just need to start.”
